About Us
On 1 September 2004 after answering the door to a door to door salesman offering cheaper gas and electricity. I decided after turning him away to see if I was on the cheapest tariff.
I then spent days surfing the internet to compare gas and electric prices and comparing them to the prices I was paying. To my amazement, I discovered that that there was some choice out there but many of the suppliers did not make their prices easy to find.
In addition to finding the prices, I discovered that you needed to know a little bit about the type of meter you have and also which region you live in. All of these factors contribute to the price that you pay for your gas and electricity supply. What I thought would be an hour task had turned into a month's worth of work.
After spending nearly a month looking for prices and comparing them against the tariff I was on, I discovered that I was not on the cheapest. Having previously changed suppliers using a price comparison site, I discovered that I could beat the tariff that they had quoted me. As a result, on Thursday 1 November 2004, beatthefatcat.co.uk was born.
Now, after a few months of trial and error on a few different formats, several books, many hours of hard work (numerous hours of swearing at the pc), we are pleased to bring you version three of beatthefatcat.co.uk.
From the offset we wanted to keep things simple and to the point. We made a list of all the things that annoy us when we surf the internet and agreed that we would not commit any of these annoying internet habits:
- No pop ups (or pop under's), they are both just as bad
- Just a few emails from us, we will only send two per calendar month
- Keep it to the point and keep it brief
